Infrastructure

The computing resources at IIMB include world class servers and workstations, a state-of-the-art campus network and a 64 kbs speed dedicated Internet connections (to be upgraded to 256 kbs shortly). It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week basis throughout the year. The servers include a high end Compaq Proliant server (544 MB RAM, 32 GB Disk with RAID) to host SAP R/3 suite of ERP software, a Silicon Graphics Indy workstation (32 MB RAM, 19" Colour Monitor and built-in camera) to host the IIMB Web site, three Compaq Proliant servers (512 MB RAM, 18 GB Disk) that serve as the main Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Novell Netware 4.1 servers and two digital Alpha (128/64 MB RAM, 4 GB Disk) UNIX servers.

About 100 units of Compaq DeskPro 4000N NetPC workstations (Pentium with 32 MB RAM, 1 GB Disk, 10/100 Mbps Ethernet card) serve the desk top needs of the students. Another 100 units of HP Vectra workstations (Pentium with 32 MB RAM, 1 GB Disk, 10/100 Mbps Ethernet card) serve the need of IIMB faculty. Yet another set of about 100 Intel 486 class machines from Compaq and Acer serve the administrative & infrastructure needs of IIMB. A fibre optic back bone network with 10 network segments, a high speed IBM Ethernet switch with more than 2 GB backplane bandwidth and high speed (100 Mbps) UTP CAT 5 category connections with structured cabling for the desktops provide the network environment.

The 64 Kbps dedicated Radio links provide Internet connection through ERNET Gateway through a CISCO Router. Practically, all desktop computers have access to Internet. A Compaq server donated by Intel/Compaq running SAP R/3 software (50 user license) donated by SAP, Ramco Systems funded Marshal Competency Lab, a Compaq funded Multimedia Lab with 15 multimedia computers, a Microsoft funded University advanced Technology Lab (UATL), a SONY Handycam video camera, a colour scanner, colour printer (Tektronix Phaser), and HP CD-Writer are other attractions of the computing centre.

IIMB has strategic partnerships with all IT majors including Microsoft, IBM, Intel, Compaq, Novell, Oracle, Ramco and SAP. Such new partners will be IBM and Computer Associates shortly.

The Institute library is housed in a building of 55,000 sq.ft.of carpet area spread over four floors. It serves the users round the clock except on three National Holidays. It has a comprehensive collection of literature predominently related to Management and its allied subjects to meet the present and future information needs of its users. Most of the library activities are computerized using "LIBSYS" integrated software package.

The library has a total collection of about 1.66 lacs of documents (books, back volumes, Govt. publications, technical reports, conference proceedings, microfilms, microfiche, CD-ROM Databases, maps, etc.). The library subscribes to about 1120 periodicals, 150 Newsletters, 2200 annual reports from public and private organisations. It maintains around 250 press clipping files on management and related subjects It has a CD-Workstation which caters data search facilities. Around 1.45 lacs of documents are available on the Institute's Local Area Network. The automated library system greatly facilitates search for books, journals, articles, etc.

The library brings out several publications for reference purpose. Some of the major services rendered by the library are Reference, Reprographic, Database search Services, Inter Library Loan, Resource Sharing, Audio-Visual, Industrial Information, Press Clippings, Articles Supply on request, Documentation Services like CAS, SDI, Indexing, Bibliographic and such other services. The Library has a Reserved Reading Room with the facility of a core collection of books, Magazines and Newspapers, etc. An Industrial Information Centre has been set up with information on about 2200 leading Indian companies. The library also gives intensive training to Graduate, Diploma and Vocational Apprentices on a regular basis.
